Over the past decade, people in this region identify more strongly as Hong Kongers than as Chinese. This is most pronounced among the younger generation. Th young adult populations are wanting to change from passive citizens to active participants in society. These Hong Kong youth are constructing mini communities, which currently are created by a variety of make shift spaces that provide room for innovation, experimentation and dissent. This proposal is aimed at creating more permanent spaces for the Hong Kong youth to cultivate their identity. The proposal is a two-part scenario. First, strategically placed floating structures that are considered “cultural centers” that have space for the Hong Kong youth to congregate as well as information centers that are site specific to modern day scenarios that are experienced in those regions. Second, an annual festival that brings the cultural centers together.
